Arab News Japan (2020)

To celebrate Japanese PM Shinzo Abe’s Arab Tour, Arab News created a calligraphy cover wrap for the newspaper.
It was designed as a vertical double page spread.
Utilising the Arab News Japan rising sun logo, designed by legendary Manga artist Go Nagai, we commissioned renowned calligrapher Diaa Allam to hand draw the script.
The vertical script was written in Japanese but drawn in an Arabic Calligraphy style, and this text translates to ‘welcome’ in Japanese. The background script is a mix of various words for ‘welcome’ in Arabic.
All calligraphy script was hand drawn.
A version of the artwork was presented to PM Abe during his visit to Saudi Arabia
